Am I a Carer ?

Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council defines a carer as: "Someone who provides unpaid support to a family member, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse issues, and the support they give impacts on their life"

There are different ways in which you may care for someone, for instance you might:

  • Regularly visit someone to check on their wellbeing or provide company
  • Arrange hospital / GP appointments or help with finances and bills
  • Support with jobs like shopping, cooking, cleaning or gardening
  • Move in short / long term to help them recuperate after an operation
  • Help with washing / dressing / medication

We know that being a carer can be an enormous responsibility, and can take its toll on your personal life, work and every other aspect of your life.

We are here to support you in your caring role. Give you information about services and how you can access them, and reassure you that you are not alone in your caring role.
